Base isolation, a technology akin to a suspension system that isolates the building from ground movement, substantially reduces the forces that an earthquake can exert on the building. The diagonally braced diagrid perimeter columns support the base isolation with a significantly stiffer tower frame. Together these technologies offer seismic performance far in excess of building code requirements. They also considerably reduce the movement experienced in the building during an earthquake which reduces the danger from falling objects such as furniture and equipment.
The building will have a backup generator for 100% of on-floor power and life safety systems in case of power interruption, and a dual sprinkler supply in case of water supply interruption. Essential electrical services will be physically elevated to protect the building operations from flood or tsunami risk.
